The project consists of the provision of specialist expertise and advice in the sketch planning, design development, tender and construction documentation for the development in Gunnedah. It forms part of the AHO's Economic Recovery program and has been awarded construction funding from the NSW Government for the 2022/23 financial year.

The brief was to design a multi-unit residential development of 3 dwellings an existing property owned by the Aboriginal Housing Office. The project seeks to deliver new and increased housing supply in the Gunnedah LGA, helping meet the housing needs of the local Aboriginal community.

Site visit and community engagement was conducted within Gunnedah to inform the development of the proposed design. The proposed design consists of 3 x 2-bedroom, culturally responsive, single storey units with associated car parking on the subject land. The target tenants are single parents with children or ageing Aboriginal couples.

The units are to be practical and low maintenance, while minimising energy consumption through passive sustainable strategies, such as northern orientation for natural light, passive cross ventilation and 7 star BASIX certification. One of the three units is to be accessible and the other two to be adaptable.
